We are super excited to announce Anthony, AKA “LEGO Batman” has been voted winner of our 2020 Superhero Costume Contest! We’re sending him a super special Halloween bag filled with goodies fit for a Superhero. Congrats & keep Gotham safe!

It’s that time again – what will you be for Halloween? A witch? A ghost? How about a superhero? Well at To the Moon and Back WE WANT TO SEE YOUR SUPERHERO! We know all you kids have it in you. You’re strong in the toughest of times. Resilient to adversity. You pick other kids up when they need support. And you have goodness in your heart. We want to highlight your greatness. Email us a picture of you in your best superhero costume. Happy Halloween!

Prizes:

  • The grand prize is a super-mega-awesome Halloween gift bag with all sorts of contents worthy of a superhero!
  • The first 5 submissions and all finalists will receive a copy of “Sam the Superhero and His Super Life” a book published to create awareness around some of the challenges faced by kids born substance-exposed.
  • There will also be a number of Judge’s Awards! For what, you may ask? It’s a surprise!

Timeline:

  • We are open to photo submissions right now! See instructions below.
  • The final day to submit your photo is Oct 24th.
  • Finalists will be posted on our website on Oct 27 (we’ll let you know on Facebook to remind you!), and you can vote for your favorite superhero costume!
  • Voting on our website remains open until noon on the 30th then we announce the winner that night. In time for bragging rights on Halloween!

Contest Rules:

  • We welcome photos of children ages 0-15 living in the Continental US.
  • Children of board members unfortunately can’t apply
  • Pictures from previous years can be utilized, as long as you’re still within the age range.
  • Entries must adhere strictly to all applicable copyright laws and guidelines. Judges may disqualify any entry based on a reasonable belief that the entry infringed on the copyright laws.
  • To the Moon and Back has the right to share the picture and the winner’s name on To the Moon and Back social media channels and the website

Book Naming Contest

Book Naming Contest

The last few months have been challenging for everyone.  As we support our fellow citizens who are keeping our essential services running and do our best to socially distance, To the Moon and Back would like to ask your help! 

We are entering our 3rd year and continue to find new and innovative ways to share our children’s stories.  To tell their tale, we’ve partnered with talented authors Katherine F. Pearson and James T. Pearson, as well as brilliant illustrator, Lauren Jezierski, to develop a book sharing a slice of our community’s story.  We’d like your help naming the book we plan to self-publish later this spring! 

About the book: 

An uplifting story about a boy named Sam and his sidekick stuffed dog, Hercules! Sam lives with his grandparents and has good and bad days like any child, made worse because he was born substance-exposed. But similar to a superhero, Sam has his own super courage and great strength.  With his loving grandparents, friends, and Hercules, Sam finds the support he needs to succeed.

Prize: 

We will be honoring the winner with one book signed by the authors and illustrator, and an additional 20 books donated to the libraries or schools of their choice.  We also look forward to doing virtual readings with librarians and teachers and to provide copies in schools this fall.  We hope this will provide a fun opportunity for distraction during this difficult time. 

Timeline:

We take initial submissions through May 8th, and will announce the top 5 on our blog on May 10th.   We will hold a week of voting and the title with the most votes will win. The winner will be announced on May 18th. 

Contest Rules: 

  1. Every entry must include name, email, mobile and library or school of choice.
  2. Individuals or groups of up to 5 people may submit an entry.
  3. Entries must adhere strictly to all applicable copyright laws and guidelines. Judges may disqualify any entry based on a reasonable belief that the entry infringed on the copyright laws.  
  4. To the Moon and Back will provide books directly to the school, library, charity or community center in the winner’s name. 
  5. The winner should not expect compensation or royalties from naming the book. Copyright will belong to To The Moon and Back.

Welcome to Sam’s Corner

As To the Moon and Back enters it’s 3rd year serving the children and families of Massachusetts and West Virginia we are excited to announce our updated website and new blog – Sam’s Corner!

Our blog will regularly feature helpful updates, news, guest blog posts, insightful Q&A with leaders, caregivers and educators in the NAS space. Our goal is to provide our community with important information, progress and the opportunity to learn more how to support and advocate for the children in their care.

To help us shape our content please feel free to submit questions here that are foremost on your mind. We will be holding a short but informative on-line webinar in the May timeframe and are cautiously optimistic that we will be host our 2nd Annual Beyond NAS Conference in the fall. In the meantime, we continue our services virtually hosting on-line caregiver meet ups, advocate consultative calls and participating in providing community support and relevant information.

We look forward to sharing insights and helpful information to support you wherever you may be on your journey with your children.
